Volume and Intensity of Sparring

In many schools instructors tend to describe the volume of contact in sparring in percentage. The instructor tells his students "spar with 30-40% intensity", or "spar with 30-40% force". One can clearly notice, that the volume and intensity of sparring is composed of more than one factor, therefore, using only "percentage" of one parameter, may not be clear enough, especially for beginners.
